We are excited to share that Kayla Mills, one of our young adults with APS Type 1, was crowned Miss Arc Broward on May 19, 2024.
The Miss Arc Broward Pageant empowers girls and teens with disabilities to pursue their dreams.
Kayla is literally using her voice to advocate for others like her with “hidden” disabilities or ones that are not as easily seen by others.
She began singing as a way to increase her lung capacity and support her lung health.

Kayla is now using what she has learned to advocate for others like her and inspire others to never give up. She sings and connects with her audience through inspirational lyrics and songs. At the most recent event at The Parker on June 30, Kayla sang “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten.
The pageant season, which began in February 2024, consisted of activities and events to encourage friendship, self-esteem, and confidence among pageant participants and a group of twenty teen ambassadors from high schools throughout Broward.
Thanks for speaking up for our rare group of APS Type 1 warriors, Kayla.
