Thank you for Becca Bednarz who ran for rare in NYC and raised over $10,000 for the Foundation’s restricted research grant.  Hear more from Becca in her own words.

One of the first things I learned about four-year-old Gaby Talarico was that she loved imaginary games. I was five when we met, and at the time, I had no clue about what our lives or friendship might look like a quarter century later.

I certainly couldn’t have predicted that many of her coming experiences would be far from simple games. But somehow, she’s handled her journey with APS Type 1 with grit, grace, and an unwavering zest for life, which I assume many APSers have as well.  That positive attitude, on top of our longstanding bond, inspired me to run the NYC Marathon in her honor – and carried me through both training and the race itself.

Best of all, she and her family were among those cheering for us runners on the streets of Manhattan. Their level of support, the day’s ripe air of community, and my own gratitude for both Gaby and the APS Type 1 Community were beyond anything I could have imagined.  I’m proud that we raised over $10,000 in research funds and I want to personally thank you all for giving me the opportunity to run for your community.
